Meet King, National Association for Realtors’s K9 for Cops Statue!

For generations, police officers in Chicago have used dogs as partners to assist them in solving crimes and keeping communities safe. As a tribute to the important work the Chicago Police Department’s Canine Unit dogs perform every day, the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation is launching the Chicago ‘K9s for Cops’ public art campaign. The campaign was conceived to memorialize our city’s heroes while supporting the families of police officers that have been killed or catastrophically injured in the line of duty. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds will be earmarked for PAWS Chicago to benefit the rescue and adoption of dogs in the city.

As a sponsor of the campaign, NAR’s German Shepherd statue, King, will stand guard on Michigan Ave in front of the NAR building in Chicago starting the week of July 24 through Labor Day. King is named after William King, a fallen Chicago Police Officer from the year 1908, the same year NAR was established. NAR worked with local artist, Rich Lo, to design and paint our K9 with a bold, graphic, deconstructed Chicago flag design with the theme "Supporting all who served – whether two-legged of four – find a safe home.”
